Franco Guerzoni – Motivi vaganti, nuove trame
20 january – 25 february 2018
Motivi vaganti – Nuove trame is a project by Franco Guerzoni in collaboration with the Galleria Antonio Verolino of Modena, a space that brings together the poetics of some important artists of our time and the tradition of textile art, with exclusive attention to the production of tapestries and carpets.
The exhibition unfolds around a large work – a carpet entirely hand-knotted in Lahore, Pakistan, starting from a graphic project by Guerzoni, whose image (undefined and lively like those of all the artist’s works) becomes the narrative fulcrum and the energy center of the entire exhibition.
In addition to the carpet, Motivi vagante – Nuove trame, also includes other works: the painted project from which the image reproduced in the carpet derives; some of the artist’s drawings made during the work, which, rather than projects, are to be understood as potential images, or portraits of an object (the carpet) still unknown by the artist; a wool tapestry, woven on a loom in Sardinia, the second work produced by the Verolino Gallery, bearing the traces of restless signs – floating on the white of the fabric and embroidered by hand – a re-emergence, on a new support, of shapes and motifs that constitute always his “personal archaeology”, real and imaginary.
