The Phair 2021 Torino

The Antonio Verolino Gallery presents a stand with photographic works by the artist Cesare Leonardi. Architect, designer, photographer, sculptor, Cesare Leonardi embodies the figure of a contemporary artist-humanist. His career began in a dazzling way in the 1960s, designing furniture that went down in design history such as the Nastro armchair, designed together with Franca Stagi.

The interest in photography dates back to its origins, to the years in which Leonardi, a teenager, lived with his family in Vignola. His activity as a photographer will accompany his entire production as a tool for documenting, investigating, discovering: he shoots trees in the different seasons, the shadows cast by buildings on other buildings, European cities, historical architecture, his own sculptures, models of architecture, prototypes and design objects.
Between the 60s, 70s, 80s and 2000s he created series of photographs mounted on panels, to create sequences that highlight a particular compositional rhythm, dictated by the shadows, colors and shapes of the subjects represented. At the center of his work is an idea of a project on a human scale, in which the relationship with nature becomes increasingly close and necessary and in which the artisanal aspect marks a deviation from serial production.

The project created by the young Modenese photographer Jacopo Valentini during the first lockdown entitled “Superlunare” will also be presented.
