Mode 2: 4 Elements

The collaboration of the Antonio Verolino Gallery with Mode 2, one of the major street artists on the European scene, was born on the occasion of “The Bridges of Graffiti”, a collateral event at the Venice Biennale. Originally from the island of Mauritius, active in London in the 1980s, Mode now lives in Berlin. For the Modena gallery he designed a tapestry measuring three and sixty by one and twenty meters whose impact proved surprising. The same goes for the large canvases and drawings which are a genuine and original expression of the artist’s inimitable talent.

Considered one of the forerunners of the Anglo-Saxon graffiti scene – he was co-founder of The Chrome Angelz, one of the most influential London crews in Europe – Mode began to shine when street art was still an underground movement. His work, free from any compromise, frank to the point of being raw but at the same time moving, has convinced the general public and even infected a cult group of the caliber of U2. For their project “Film of Innocence”, contemporary to the album “Songs of Innocence”, the Irish band focused on his genius. It was Francesca Alinovi who, way back in 1984, brought the big names of graffiti made in New York to Italy (“Frontier art. New York Graffiti”). Today the Antonio Verolino Gallery moves into the world of contemporary art with equally courageous proposals with an international flavour.
